Google Workspace for K-12
Background
New York State has been a leader in protecting student data, and our region has been at the forefront of effectively implementing Ed Law 2-d. In March 2025, Google Add-On services will be disabled for students in New York State because these services do not comply with Ed Law 2-d. This includes applications such as YouTube, Translate, Google Earth, CS First, and many others available in the Admin console. Teachers and administrators will still have full access to these add-on services and can use them with students in a whole-group setting if they choose.
This site provides the technical and instructional information that leaders and educators need to navigate the Google digital ecosystem with students while remaining compliant. Please check back frequently for updates.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mary Lynn Collins-Callanan, Manager of Instructional Technology, or Raheela Baig, Coordinator of Data Privacy Services.

Google Workspace Updates
Gemini App and NotebookLM Are Now Core Services for All Google Workspace for Education Editions!
All Google Workspace for Education users already benefit from enhanced data protection in the Gemini app—meaning chats are not human-reviewed and not used to train AI models.
In October, we added enterprise-grade data protection for qualifying editions (Education Standard and Education Plus). Now, we’re excited to announce that these same protections are available to all Workspace for Education editions—at no cost.
With enterprise-grade data protection, the Gemini app and NotebookLM:
- Are core services covered under the Google Workspace for Education Terms of Service
- Support compliance with industry regulations, such as FERPA
- Receive the same level of technical support as other core services like Docs and Gmail
These protections are now fully rolled out and available for immediate use.
